I feel like I’d always lose the speculative future movie drafts because instead of things that I think would win awards or make money, I’d pick genre movies like this that speak to me most of the time. I can’t help myself.

While I was watching this, I couldn’t help but think about Buffy the vampire slayer and X files. I never saw the Snick shows like are you afraid of the dark or adventures of Pete and Pete. Growing up, I was given carte Blanche to watch whatever movies I wanted to as a kid as long as it didn’t have sex (I’m the product of south Asian immigrant parents who let TV and movies raise me as much as they did) so I gravitated towards horror movies often. Because I was watching horror movies as a kid, the Snick shows didn’t seem like they were my bag so I never checked them out.

I loved this movie so much. It didn’t need to be clear to me and I thought that was the beauty of the movie. I feel like I’ll be visiting it so much over the years.

I can’t wait for the mess that is Megapolis.

Sorry I have been slow to respond to your thoughtful comments! The end of the school year has been craaaazy.

I think you would be amazing at a future movie draft precisely because you'd pick with your heart!! (That's why we have the personal happiness criteria as part of our metric.) I was wondering if my lack of connection to horror as a genre was at play in my like it and admire it but didn't love it reaction. I'm really eager to watch it again to see if I can parse my interpretation of it more (or get more comfortable with not having one).

I can't wait for Megalopolis too! I feel like even if it's terrible it will be a fun watch.
