Great pod guys. Love hearing your thoughts especially when we disagree.

Can I posit my theory (which is kind of like antonio's)? The movie is about ownership and not wanting to be put into a box. He pretty much says it in that one convo the elevator and it sums up the whole movie. There are a lot of people or forces in this movie that are trying to either control him, use him, be what they want him to be, etc and he just wants to be and flow. I feel like a lot of his relationships with women can be defined as toxic (cheating is toxic but other than that) but also, i think both women understand him but still either want him to be something else, need something more that he can't provide, or need someone else that isn't him. This is why Woody Guthrie is his most pure relationship in the movie. That's why the movie begins and ends with Woody imo.

I know there is a lot of criticism of the movie of having baez, sylvie, and pete staring longingly at dylan while he's performing (which i disagree with because those characters are fuller than how critics/people are talking about that and also what else are they supposed to do when he's performing?).....but i have more of a problem of bob dylan staring emotionally at newscasts, newspaper headlines/articles, and walking into protests and that's supposed to give me a picture of how he feels about social issues (well his songs tell you a lot but I mean in the context of the movie....you can't expect all moviegoers to be familiar with his music). I think that's a cheap and shallow way of showing that imo.
