So to me, Get Out is one of the 2 most important movies of the past 10 years and a top 5 movie of the past 25. PT was pushing the agenda and I really appreciate him for it but the month after this movie came out was such a culture shift moment for me, my friends, for random cinephiles in NY (i saw it 5 times in theaters at the time and i had convos with randoms), for everyone....even if you didn't like it as much as everyone because there were even ripples that they felt. A lot of my friends (and most of my movie club) are HBCU alumni and it was a common topic of discussion throughout that entire year. Maybe I was in a bubble but also.....it's an incredible work of art. The density of that movie is awe inspiring. I always feel like I picked it clean but there is still stuff that I'll see and i'm like "damn, i'm still gleaming stuff from this movie? If we're not giving Kaluuya best actor then we have to give Kaluuya's eyes the award. It was doing so much heavy lifting in that movie. He didn't have to say a single piece of dialogue.....his eyes were doing all of the work in that movie. I dare you to watch that movie on mute because I have and it still works. I support Timothee as a fellow knicks fan but it was Kaluuya. Timo and DDL tied for second. Also, shout out to PT for the Allison Williams nom attempt. She shouldn't win but she should have gotten a nom. I wasn't quite there for Lil Rel though. Trying to pick between Get Out and dunkirk for editing is crazy to me. I don't think either work as well without editing but also, one of the biggest precursors to winning best picture is best editing so I probably would have given it to Get Out.

I support Last Jedi in best adapted. I love that movie. and that script is a deconstruction of a star wars formula and it's mythos that was incredibly brave to me. I like to call myself a star wars fan but probably not as big as greg and jen but I really appreciated what he did with that script.

Btw no one mentioned Ethan Hawke in First Reformed. That was probably the biggest oscar nomination snub that year imo.

I was also a humongous fan of Good Time.

I support Laurie Metcalf to the fullest. That was such a dropped ball imo.

I think Shape of Water got a real unfair rep during Oscar season and especially after the fact. that movie is magic and awe and honestly, people really need to get in tap with their inner child more (but i should probably be looking in the mirror sometimes).

Y'all were definitely on your awards socialist vibe on this episode. I'm definitely an awards capitalist lmao. If DDL is the best performance, then keep giving him awards....I don't care about spreading it around in that case. One of my buddies is a huge awards socialist and doesn't believe people who have won two or more should win anymore and I so disagree. I feel like the awards matter less if you don't feel like you give the awards to the people you think are the best.......but then again, 2017 is one of the best movie years of this century so far so this is the year that you can be an accidental (or on purpose) awards socialist for sure.

I'm ready to do it whenever you are. Greg can't watch it until he's back from vacation because he has slow internet and I think P.T. and Antonio are not interested!

All I know about this movie is that it made Jen disrespect the cinematic masterpiece Spice World, so I'm boycotting it on principle.

Btw if you want to do it and no one else will, I’m game. I’ll check my schedule later today (three people called out of work at the pharmacy and I’m swamped)

But Get Out all day. Even at the time, I knew I was watching the best movie of the year and something I'll talk about for years. I think I had seen it 5 times in the theater.
